20 Simple Outdoor Tablescape Ideas for Easy Entertaining

There is something so magical about an outdoor tablescape and I’ve got ideas for you! The fresh air, warm sunshine, and relaxed atmosphere instantly make any meal feel special. One of my favorite things to do when entertaining is create a beautiful outdoor tablescape that feels welcoming but still simple and effortless.

Over the years I have created many outdoor tablescapes for backyard dinners, family gatherings, and casual evenings with friends. The best part is you don’t need anything fancy to create a table that feels warm and inviting. Many of these ideas use things you may already have in your home or yard.

Today I’m sharing 20 simple outdoor tablescape ideas for easy entertaining that will inspire you to gather around the table and enjoy the beauty of outdoor dining.

1. Natural Woven Placemats

One of the easiest ways to build a beautiful outdoor tablescape is by starting with natural woven placemats. They add texture and warmth to the table and work beautifully with almost any style—from coastal to farmhouse.

See how I put this simple outdoor spring tablescape here.

I use mine constantly because they instantly make the table feel layered and finished.

2. Crisp White Dinner Plates

Simple white plates are my go-to for entertaining. They act like a blank canvas and allow colorful foods like salads, grilled vegetables, and fresh fruit to really shine.

I love dining outdoors during fall especially for Thanksgiving like I did here.

White dinnerware also makes it easy to mix and match different napkins and table linens.

3. Fresh Branches from the Yard

Some of my favorite centerpieces are completely free. I simply clip branches or greenery from trees in our yard and place them in a vase.

The natural look feels organic and relaxed—perfect for outdoor dining.

4. Soft Linen Napkins for Outdoor tablescape Ideas

Cloth napkins instantly elevate a table setting. I love using soft linen napkins in fresh colors like sage green, soft blue, or natural flax. This blue and white coastal tablescape was really fun to put together, see it here.

They add just the right amount of color without feeling too formal.

5. Napkin Rings

Creating unique napkin rings with natural things creates a look that feels earthy and warm. This is one of my favorite combinations for spring and summer tables.

I created this natural fall tablescape using cuttings and fresh pears from my yard here.

It is also really fun to use more elaborate napkin rings because it can really make a statement like this. You can see my tutorial on how to make these flower napkin rings here.

6. Clear Glass Goblets

Clear goblets or simple drinking glasses add a little sparkle to the table without overwhelming the look. When sunlight hits the glass, it creates such a pretty effect.

Dining by the pool is always a fabulous way to dine and using clear goblets adds sparkle.

7. Simple Mason Jar Centerpieces

Mason jars filled with flowers or greenery create a relaxed farmhouse style centerpiece that works beautifully for outdoor gatherings. I love using them for 4th of July because they are easy to decorate with.

You can see how I created these red white and blue mason jar vases here.

8. Fresh Garden Flowers

If you have flowers blooming in your yard, bring them inside! Fresh flowers instantly brighten the table and make guests feel special. I created this pretty centerpiece using all flowers and greenery from my yard.

Even a few simple stems mixed with greens can make a big impact.

9. Layered Table Textures

Combining different textures—wood, linen, woven materials, and glass—creates depth and visual interest.

Outdoor tables look especially beautiful when these natural elements are layered together. I found this yellow an white striped blanket a few years ago and knew it would work for a tablecloth. Mixed with amber colored goblets, fun leaf plates and cuttings from the yard created lots of visual interest.

10. Paper Table Runner

A paper neutral table runner or tablecloth provides a calming base for your tablescape. It allows colorful dishes and fresh foods to stand out. This is one of my best secrets! Using green paint paper from the hardware store as a table runner!

You can buy a big roll for $5 and it will last a long time. It comes in natural brown color too.

11. Vintage Dishes

Mixing in vintage plates, goblets or serving dishes adds charm and personality to your outdoor table. It’s a fun way to incorporate pieces you may already have collected over the years. I have loved using my grandmothers cut glass colorful goblets for a beautiful tablescape. I mean why have vintage pieces if you are not going to use them?

12. Lantern Light

Lanterns create a cozy glow when the sun starts to set. I love placing a few lanterns down the center of the table for evening gatherings. Even though I styled this inside I would totally use this lantern outdoors when creating a beachy tablescape.

13. Seasonal Fruit Displays for Outdoor Tablescape Ideas

Fresh fruit like lemons, peaches, or berries can double as both décor and food. Placing them in bowls or baskets adds natural color to your tablescape. Who could resist enjoying fruit layered in a 2-tier stand like this?

16. Unique Centerpieces

Sometimes you can create a outdoor tablescape centerpiece out of unique things like pennies! I created a table runner out of pennies just by laying them down in a fun pattern. Then to bring in more green color I added in faux green plants, candlesticks and small votive candles from around my house.

Think outside the box when planning your tablescape and you will be surprised with what you can come up with.

17. Coastal Grandma Inspired Elements

If you love coastal style, add small touches like shells, driftwood, lace placemats or soft floral tables linens to your table setting. I used thrifted floral napkins that my sister gave me for this coastal grandmother tablescape here.

18. Mix and Match Chairs for An Outdoor Dining Experience

Outdoor dining doesn’t have to be perfectly coordinated. Mixing different chairs can create a charming relaxed look. Use what you have to create This outdoor dinner party in the garden was one of my favorite parties of all time.

19. Candlelight

The best part of eating outdoors is when the sun goes down and you have lots of candlelight. It is so relaxing looking at the candles flickering and sets such a beautiful mood.
