Melted crayon Valentine stained glass hearts

You may be asking yourself what is an easy Valentine craft to make? Here is a super fun old school way to make Valentine decorations.

Melted crayon Valentine stained glass hearts! These crayon hearts are fun for kids and adults alike to make!

They are really easy and fun to do!

Supplies needed-

Old crayons

Grater and or knife

Wax paper

Iron

Scissors

Prepping crayons

First I took the paper off of all the crayons that I wanted to use. I tried to pick pinks, reds, yellow and oranges. I used my zester to grate the crayons.

Next I ripped off two sheets of waxed paper large enough to cut out a bunch of hearts in different sizes.

Shave crayons

The zester creates very fine shavings. I think if I did it again I would mix up the sizes of shavings. I would also use my knife to slice off thicker pieces and mix it up with the finer shavings to get some different thicknesses of melted crayon.

Who knew zesters could have such a fun effect for crayon art!

Shave enough to create a nice wide pile of shavings. Spread it out a bit so that you will have a lot to choose from once you start cutting out the hearts.

Tip- If you want more the pink and yellow to show up, use less red. Once I ironed this pile the red took over as the main color.

Melting crayons

Place a second piece of wax paper over the pile of shavings. It does not take much heat for the crayons to melt.

Once you finish ironing the wax paper and melt the crayons it will be kind of runny. Let it cool and harden back up before you start cutting out the hearts.

Cut out melted crayon hearts

I used a paper templets of hearts of different sizes to lay on the wax paper and just started cutting out hearts. They look like marbled hearts or stained glass pieces.

To hang melted crayon hearts, I taped some thread to each one and hung them from my back door so that the light would shine through them.

I love how they look. They remind me of my patchwork heart sugar cookies.

Another fun idea would be to turn them into a card. Take white construction paper and cut it to the size you would like and fold in half.

Glue the hearts onto the front of your card.

I think I need to make some myself!
