My kitchen nook through the years is fun to see how far it come. This is one of my most favorite rooms in the house. It has become a gathering spot when family is here. The white cupboards on the back wall hold lots of my favorite dishes. I love how it looks when the sunlight is streaming in.
It has come along way since we moved in. It started out with yellow walls and one black Ikea shelving unit. You will love seeing the transformations through the years as well as lots of tablescapes and holiday decorations I have done in here.
I fell in love with the look of bamboo shades many years ago. Probably from living in Newport beach as a kid and seeing all the cute beach houses with them. I scored on these shades 11 years ago. You won’t even believe what I paid for most of them!

Ikea Shelving Hack
This Ikea shelving unit was perfect to hold my dishes in this house and in our Texas house. After we moved into our lake kottage we added white bead board to the back of it. Why I didn’t do this sooner is beyond me. It was so easy!
Kitchen nook dining room chair makeover
We found this round table and chairs at a thrift store! They were a brown color and the chairs had faux leather seat cushions. My amazing husband painted it all for me and I recovered the seats. Amazing transformation.
Celebrations and holidays
Buffalo Plaid Christmas table
For Christmas one year I set a really fun buffalo plaid Christmas tablescape! Complete with a red green and black balloon arch. I even hung some red green ornaments from my chandelier. It really turned out amazing!
Mother daughter Galentine party
This was such a fun party that I held in the kitchen nook with my two daughters and two granddaughters. The pink ballon garland with faux flowers was so pretty as were the heart garlands hanging down on either side of the window.
Easter tablescape
It is so fun to create a pretty tablescape for spring. Just using cuttings from the yard mixed with faux greens the centerpiece looks amazing. Wait until you see where I got the pink vase from!
Green and copper is such a fun way to set the table for St. Patrick’s day! My kitchen nook really came alive when I set this tablescape. I even made a runner on the table out of copper pennies!
To make my kitchen nook look spooky I hang paper bats all over the back wall. Plus I add in some fun black birds, pumpkins and other decor. Wait until you see what I did with my big chalkboard that is hanging on the wall.
Halloween is so much fun to decorate around! This Halloween kitchen nook was done a few years back and I still love the way it looks!
We have lots of parties here at Karins Kottage and this Harry Potter part was awesome! My niece put this together using things from around my house and fun Halloween decor that I had.
