Witch Hat Makeover Tutorial

Here is a quick witch hat makeover tutorial when you need a Halloween accessory fast!

My daughter Emily needed a witch hat for her costume the other night but didn’t want to spend a lot money.

How to begin the witch hat makeover

Start with an old witch hat.

This particular witch hat had green hair attached.

Maybe you remember when I used it to make a witch scarecrow in my front yard haha

Cut off witch hat green hair

First thing we did was to cut off the stringy green hair. It is like cotton candy…whisps of yucky stuck together fake hair.

BTW I’ve seen these hats at Walmart, they still make them.

That green hair is just hideous…perfect for a witch (cue a cackling witch hee hee hee)

Shop for orange or copper colored decor

Next…a little shopping of course!

Emily went to Michaels and scored in finding some sparkly orange decor for the hat.

Only a buck each!

Then at hobby lobby she found an awesome black and silver feathered boa to wrap around the edge of witch hat.

Add a black and silver boa to Witch hat

To really make this hat come alive, Emily wrapped the boa twice around the brim of the hat.

Simply hot glued it in places to keep it sturdy.

Add white tulle bow

Then she took white tulle and tied a big huge bow in the front again securing it with hot glue.

What did we ever use before hot glue??!!

To finish off the witch hat, Emily hot glued Mr. Sparkly skeleton head in the center of the bow.

WOW What a statement!

Adding orange glitter balls

First we thought about hot glueing the glitter balls around the base of the hat but you couldn’t see them.

Emily came up with a great idea! Add them all around the pointy part of the hat.

They are so light weight they stayed on perfectly!

To make the hat a little sparkly we sprayed the hat with glue and sprinkled glitter all around it!

Pretty cool huh?!!

Wouldn’t this hat be cool as a centerpiece for a Halloween tablescape?

I did a fun Witchy Tablescape awhile ago you can see it here using another witch hat, spider webs with a black and gold color palette and it turned out so bewitching!

Speaking of bewitching I wrote my first ebook! Bewitching Halloween Entertaining Ideas and it is available on Amazon for $5.

I compiled lots of my Halloween ideas, recipes and decor from over 35 years in it!

Emily and her pal looked gorgeous and had a blast at Witch’s Night Out!

Hope y’all have your costumes ready!!

Karins Kottage

Welcome to Karins Kottage! There is always something fun going on! You would think after becoming an empty nester couple that our nest would be very quiet and empty but our Kottage nest is usually more full than what we started out with! You might find me hosting a birthday party or graduation party and a baby shower on the same weekend or a big outdoor get together with 25 of our friends and family in the backyard or maybe I might be in the kitchen trying out a new recipe for my hubby and I to grill on the BBQ for a quiet night for the two of us. I am passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table! I may or may not have an addiction to cloth napkins and fun salad plates oh and goblets too! I think I will always have a home decorating DIY project in the works as long as my hubby is on board with me haha. We have painted A LOT in the 6 homes we have owned in the 35 years that we have been married as well as re-done multiple pieces of furniture, added wall and ceiling treatments, replaced lights, bathroom fixtures and even tiled floors! I have sewn what seems like a million window treatments for our home as well as for family, made slipcovers, and duvets and even a formal dress or two!
