Witch Hat Makeover Tutorial

Here is a quick witch hat makeover tutorial when you need a Halloween accessory fast!

My daughter Emily needed a witch hat for her costume the other night but didn’t want to spend a lot money.

How to begin the witch hat makeover

Start with an old witch hat.

This particular witch hat had green hair attached.

Maybe you remember when I used it to make a witch scarecrow in my front yard haha

Cut off witch hat green hair

First thing we did was to cut off the stringy green hair. It is like cotton candy…whisps of yucky stuck together fake hair.

BTW I’ve seen these hats at Walmart, they still make them.

That green hair is just hideous…perfect for a witch (cue a cackling witch hee hee hee)

Shop for orange or copper colored decor

Next…a little shopping of course!

Emily went to Michaels and scored in finding some sparkly orange decor for the hat.

Only a buck each!

Then at hobby lobby she found an awesome black and silver feathered boa to wrap around the edge of witch hat.

To really make this hat come alive, Emily wrapped the boa twice around the brim of the hat.

Simply hot glued it in places to keep it sturdy.

Add white tulle bow

Then she took white tulle and tied a big huge bow in the front again securing it with hot glue.

What did we ever use before hot glue??!!

To finish off the witch hat, Emily hot glued Mr. Sparkly skeleton head in the center of the bow.

WOW What a statement!

Adding orange glitter balls

First we thought about hot glueing the glitter balls around the base of the hat but you couldn’t see them.

Emily came up with a great idea! Add them all around the pointy part of the hat.

They are so light weight they stayed on perfectly!

To make the hat a little sparkly we sprayed the hat with glue and sprinkled glitter all around it!

Pretty cool huh?!!

Wouldn’t this hat be cool as a centerpiece for a Halloween tablescape?
