Have I told you how much I love breakfast food? Not just plain breakfast food either. I always have to pump it up a notch. Today I am sharing my crunchy French toast recipe that I make it with Honey bunches of oats cereal. Plain French toast or plain pancakes is just not for me.
You can check out some of my other favorite pancake recipes here. Even oatmeal has to be taken up a notch. Have you ever tried my fried oatmeal recipe? Oh it is something special because it is made with lemon curd and blueberries. You need to try ti!
French toast ingredients
I love Dave’s Killer bread 21 Whole grains and seeds because it has lots of nutty grains in it. Yes it is more expensive but I think it’s worth it.
The flavor is so fantastic!
Ingredients
Daves killer bread 21 grains and seeds
3 eggs
3 TBSP milk (or more depending on what you like)
Butter
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1/2 C Honey bunches of oats (crumbled)
Real Maple syrup
Sliced fruit (I used strawberries, blueberries and bananas)
Chobani Vanilla yogurt
How to make crunchy French toast
To make the crunchy French toast I started with 3 whole eggs, 3 Tbsp milk, 1 tsp cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
Using a whisk, whip up the ingredients.
On a small plate add the honey bunches of oats cereal and crunch it up a bit. Make sure the plate is big enough to be able to dip the soggy egg bread slices in it.
Dip each piece of bread in the egg mixture so it is nice and soggy.
Next, dip the soggy bread into the crushed honey bunches of oats cereal.
Make sure to cover each side of bread with a coating of cereal.
I love a lot of cereal on my French toast to make it crunchy.
How to cook
Heat a pancake griddle to medium heat. Rub some butter on the griddle.
Cook on each side for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. The cereal turns golden in color cooking in the butter and it also becomes nice and crunchy.
It is so good!
You could add some coconut to the cereal to add even more flavor.
I had some leftover egg mixture so I added it the griddle and made scrambled eggs.
How to serve crunchy French toast
After you cook the crunchy French toast, serve with sliced fruit and yogurt.
I used sliced strawberries, bananas and some blueberries.
Chobani vanilla yogurt is our favorite!
I can’t even begin to describe how delicious this is! Once you top the French toast with fruit and yogurt, drizzle over the top with real maple syrup.
Scrumptious!

That does sound delicious! I don’t normally eat French toast because I think it does taste a bit soggy and I like my toast to have a crunch. I’m going to have to try this (without the syrup though as I am not a fan of maple syrup (real or otherwise).
This does sound scrumptious-gotta try it n will pass it along…
Yum, this looks delish, Karin! French toast is my go-to for a “splurge” breakfast, and I love Honey Buches of Oats, so I definitely need to give your recipe a try. I’m going to share it with my readers tomorrow as part of my week in rewind recap.
I hope you are enjoying your summer!
