Create Beautiful Fall Centerpiece with Yard Flowers and Grasses

Fall is a time for warm colors, cozy textures, and beautiful seasonal decor. One of the most fun and creative ways to bring the beauty of fall into your home is to create a beautiful fall centerpiece with flowers, leaves, and grasses—straight from your yard! The best part? It’s free!

Step 1: Choose Your Vase

Start by selecting the perfect vase or container for your arrangement. I chose a large antique urn with a wide opening to give my centerpiece plenty of space to spread out. A vase with a wide mouth works wonderfully for larger, more natural-looking arrangements. I found this urn below that looks similar to mine on Poshmark,

Step 2: Create a Grid

To ensure your stems stay in place, create a grid across the top of the vase using clear tape. Begin by laying strips of tape from one side to the other, about an inch apart

Then, make another set of strips going in the opposite direction to form a crisscross grid. This method creates little squares that will help keep your flower stems from falling over.

Step 3: Forage for Foliage

Now, it’s time to explore your yard! Look for fall leaves in different sizes and colors.

I found some beautiful orangey-red leaves on my snowball bushes, and I also snipped a few twigs from other tall bushes with similar rich hues.

Don’t forget to gather other natural elements like golden grasses or dried flowers—limelight hydrangeas from my garden added the perfect soft, creamy color to my arrangement.

Step 4: Start Arranging

Begin by placing your largest flowers and stems in the vase first. I started with the hydrangeas and fall leaves, allowing them to spread out and create a foundation for the rest of the arrangement.

Keep the look relaxed and natural—don’t worry about making it perfect!

Continue to add in your grasses and other foraged pieces, trimming or rearranging as needed to achieve the desired shape.

Step 5: Add Finishing Touches

To give your arrangement more character, consider adding vines or trailing elements that can spill over the edge of the vase. If your yard doesn’t provide enough variety, feel free to supplement with faux flowers or greenery.

Step 6: Style Your Centerpiece

Once your arrangement is complete, place it on your table with some fall accents. I used a velvet runner and added a few faux pumpkins around the base for a cozy autumn look. The finished centerpiece added the perfect seasonal touch to my fall table.
