Easy DIY Photo Booth and blue and white banner Tutorial

It is graduation season and here is a great easy DIY photo booth to make! I also made this blue and white striped banner to go over it.

Making a fabric triangle pennant garland makes a huge impact for any party! I actually made a few of these banners to hang around different areas for this graduation shindig!

You might remember when I shared with all of you the entire BYU graduation party I helped put together for my friend? If you haven’t see the entire at home graduation party make sure you pop over to see it.

All the details on how I created the dessert table, the pizza buffet and the dancing are on this post. Including are plan B because of rain!

Today I want to show you the details about how to make the photo booth and the blue and white triangle banner flags.

Maybe you call them garlands or buntings? Whichever they are knowns as… here is the tutorial.

Banner instructions

First off the banner- I bought a yard each of blue and white cotton fabric and cut triangles out of each color and sewed them onto some Rick Rack.

You could probably hot glue it if you don’t know how to sew.

Step 1- Make a triangle pattern out of cardboard 7″ across and 9″ down.

Step 2- Cut out 6 of each color that you are going to use.

I used 6 of the blue and 6 of the white triangle fabric cut outs per banner.

They are so easy to whip up that I made a bunch!

Step 3- Simply alternate the blue and white pennants as you go along. Pinning each triangle pennant onto the jumbo rickrack is a good idea to hold them in place while you sew.

Step 4- I sewed each triangle onto the jumbo sized rickrack using a straight stitch down the center of the rickrack.

Tip- Hot glue could also work to attach them onto the rickrack.

I used one of the banners to hang over the front door to greet guests.

Hanging another blue and white bunting over the fireplace mantle added some festiveness to the room where we ended up having the DJ and dancing!

DIY Photo Booth Instructions

Here is the photo booth I created using the Blue striped fabric and fun props. I bought 6 yards of the fabric and cut it in half.

Then I draped each piece over the top of rented drape and pipe and safety pinned them so they wouldn’t fall off.

The drape and pipe measured about 8 ft high and about 8 or 9ft wide.

For the props I found empty wooden frames, a bright colored umbrella, huge sunglasses, hats, faux flowers and another funny or random things that I thought would be fun.

For the lips and mustaches on a stick a friend cut them out of felt and hot glued them on to skewers for people to hold up to their mouths.

Just have everyone use their phones to take selfies no need to have a camera there.

Even the littlest guests had fun posing for a pic.

My hubby and I got into the fun of having our pic taken.

We had so much fun at this party!

More DIY photo booth backdrop ideas

We used this same fabric and rented drape and pipe from a local party rental for my daughters wedding reception!

Even all my grandsons and nephews got into the action! hahah

Grandma and grandpa were taking photos! It is so fun to have all these cute pictures of everyone enjoying themselves at the wedding.

Awhile ago I created a very cute and very simple black and red Pirate photo booth for a cub scout meeting. The boys and their families loved taking photos!

Here are two other photo booth backdrop ideas you could do.

Use sheets or curtains for the backdrop add a long piece of white banner paper roll and handwrite cute things on it. Add some paper flowers to the paper with tape and BAM you have got a simple photo booth backdrop.

One more idea using sheets.

I created a simple Valentine Photo booth backdrop by painting big X and O’s on it and making a ballon arch to go above it for a youth dance. It turned out fabulous!

Karins Kottage

Welcome to Karins Kottage! There is always something fun going on! You would think after becoming an empty nester couple that our nest would be very quiet and empty but our Kottage nest is usually more full than what we started out with! You might find me hosting a birthday party or graduation party and a baby shower on the same weekend or a big outdoor get together with 25 of our friends and family in the backyard or maybe I might be in the kitchen trying out a new recipe for my hubby and I to grill on the BBQ for a quiet night for the two of us. I am passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table! I may or may not have an addiction to cloth napkins and fun salad plates oh and goblets too! I think I will always have a home decorating DIY project in the works as long as my hubby is on board with me haha. We have painted A LOT in the 6 homes we have owned in the 35 years that we have been married as well as re-done multiple pieces of furniture, added wall and ceiling treatments, replaced lights, bathroom fixtures and even tiled floors! I have sewn what seems like a million window treatments for our home as well as for family, made slipcovers, and duvets and even a formal dress or two!
