How to Style the Fisherman Aesthetic Trend in 2025 for Women Over 50

Pinterest has predicted that 2025 will bring the fisherman aesthetic style trend to the forefront of fashion, and as someone who is always up for cozy, comfortable, and chic looks, I couldn’t be more excited! Even if you’ve never been fishing, this trend is something we can all hop on. It’s got a coastal grandmother vibe that’s just perfect for chilly winter and spring days – think cable knit sweaters, loose jeans, scarves, bucket hats, and a long raincoat.

This look is totally in sync with the “coastal grandma” trend we’ve been seeing lately, but with a bit more of an outdoorsy, practical edge. It’s all about looking put together while feeling comfortable – a win-win if you ask me!

Key Pieces to Style the Fisherman Aesthetic Trend

Let’s break down the key pieces for this trend that you’ll want to embrace:

Cable Knit Sweaters

There’s something about a classic cable knit sweater that screams cozy and timeless. Whether it’s oversized or fitted, this piece is perfect for layering and staying warm on colder days.

I’m loving my thrifted creamy cable knit sweater right now. It’s super soft and easy to pair with almost anything.

Loose, Relaxed Jeans

Comfort is key, and loose denim jeans are the perfect way to nail this trend. I’m wearing a pair of wide-leg, big-cuff denim jeans that are not only comfy but look fantastic with a variety of shoes. If you don’t have a pair yet, now is the perfect time to try them!

Belts and Scarves for the Fisherman Aesthetic Trend Style

Adding accessories like a simple scarf can give your outfit that maritime touch. I tied a blue and white patterned scarf over my cable knit sweater – it instantly gives off that fisherman vibe. Belts, especially leather or woven ones, can also add a great element of interest to your outfit.

Raincoats and Trench Coats

You can’t complete the fisherman aesthetic without a reliable raincoat! My long trench coat with big lapels is one of my favorite wardrobe pieces.

It instantly pulls everything together, especially on dreary days. My daughter, Madeline, has some fabulous raincoats for sale on Facebook Marketplace – check them out if you’re in need of a great raincoat that’s both stylish and functional.

Fisherman Boots and Sandals

Of course, you need the right footwear to pull off this look, and fisherman sandals in brown leather are perfect for spring. But for now, especially on those rainy or snowy days, I’ve been loving my navy rubber Bogs ankle boots. They slip on easily and provide great support – perfect for stormy weather!

Fun Accessories that say Fisherman Aesthetic Trend Style

Pinterest is already showing some super fun accessories that I can’t wait to wear. Think fish-shaped small bags, striped knit sweaters in navy or red, fish earrings, and even denim chore coats (hello, Ina Garten vibes!). Wool beanies in bright colors are another fun touch that will make your fisherman-inspired look pop.

Bucket Hats and Beanies

Bucket hats are making a statement this year, and I’m loving the sherpa/leather combo. It adds just the right amount of texture and interest to the outfit. I recently posted about wearing it flipped to the leather side when paired with my leather jacket, it’s an effortlessly chic combination.

My Take on the Fisherman Aesthetic

To create my own take on the fisherman aesthetic, I’ve styled my new wide-leg denim jeans with a creamy cable knit sweater. The sweater has a mock turtleneck, but the addition of the scarf really pulls the whole look together. And yes, my navy rubber Bogs ankle boots are a must! They are just so cute and practical for the rain and snow.

“Elsa” joined me in my photo shoot 🙂

I topped off my look with my long trench coat – such a versatile piece that works for so many outfits. The big lapels are so on trend, and it really gives me that put-together look. Add in my sherpa bucket hat, and I’m ready to take on whatever weather 2025 has in store for me!

Why I Love This Trend

I’ve always loved the coastal grandma look, both in fashion and in my home decor. There’s just something about blues, greens, and whites that make me feel calm and cozy. It might be because I grew up in New Jersey and was surrounded by that east coast cottage vibe, or perhaps it’s from my years living in Newport Beach, California. Whatever it is, I’m so glad the fisherman aesthetic is making a comeback in a way that feels fresh and exciting!

Do you think this fisherman aesthetic will be your go-to look for 2025? Or maybe you’re already onboard? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this fun trend – and if you try any of the looks, let me know how they work for you!

You would think after becoming an empty nester couple that our nest would be very quiet and empty but our Kottage nest is usually more full than what we started out with! You might find me hosting a birthday party or graduation party and a baby shower on the same weekend or a big outdoor get together with 25 of our friends and family in the backyard or maybe I might be in the kitchen trying out a new recipe for my hubby and I to grill on the BBQ for a quiet night for the two of us. I am passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table! I may or may not have an addiction to cloth napkins and fun salad plates oh and goblets too! I think I will always have a home decorating DIY project in the works as long as my hubby is on board with me haha. We have painted A LOT in the 6 homes we have owned in the 35 years that we have been married as well as re-done multiple pieces of furniture, added wall and ceiling treatments, replaced lights, bathroom fixtures and even tiled floors! I have sewn what seems like a million window treatments for our home as well as for family, made slipcovers, and duvets and even a formal dress or two!
