Vote for Our Porch in the American Farmhouse Style Contest!

I have some amazing news to share—our home is a finalist in the American Farmhouse Style Magazine’s Curb Appeal 2024 contest! This is such an exciting moment for me, and I need your help to win. Please cast your vote for our house here: Vote for Our Home.

Being featured in a magazine has always been a dream of mine. Our porch, which is the heart and soul of our home, is what makes our house special. It’s a place where my family and I create beautiful memories all year round. Let me take you on a little tour through the seasons on our beloved porch!

Springtime Splendor

Spring is magical on our porch. The white blossoms in our front yard and the street lined with blooming trees are breathtaking.

Our white rocking chairs and porch swing are the perfect spots to enjoy the warm spring days. Below the porch is our front garden area. It is filled with daffodils, tulips, and grape hyacinths.

We love to watch the world come alive again.

Summer Celebrations

Summer brings vibrant red, white, and blue decorations to our porch.

We hang banners all across the front of our house. In fact one year my hubby and daughter got on the roof and hung one in between the windows!

Small American flags are placed in flower pots by the steps coming up to the porch and on my wreath on the front door.

On summer evenings you can find the grandkids lighting sparklers and then sitting on the porch swing with their popsicles or root beer floats.

It’s a festive, fun-filled space that truly embodies the spirit of summer.

Autumn’s Cozy Charm

When fall arrives, our porch becomes a cozy, autumnal retreat. We tie Cornstalks to the white pillars while lots of pumpkins line the steps. As Halloween approaches we hang up witch hats that fly in the wind. Spooky spider garlands with glowing eyes hang on the front railing. All of this makes Halloween a hit with all the neighborhood kids.

It’s a nostalgic time that brings back memories of trick-or-treating and childhood fun.

You might remember my post about our Barbie Halloween tablescape here. This tablescape was inspired by our neighborhood’s Barbie-themed Halloween. This street even made the news! Check it out.

Winter Wonderland

In December, our porch becomes a winter wonderland. Green garlands with white lights drape the railings, while a wreath with battery-operated lights adorns the front door. My hubby and I (mostly my hubby!) hang lights on the windows and roof, turning our home into a magical, whimsical sight.

The green wreaths with red ribbons on the windows add the perfect finishing touch, making it look like Santa and Mrs. Claus could live here. When the snow arrives it really is a magical site day or night. Even when the wind blows off two of our wreaths haha. We’ve even heard that our house is a favorite among local children!

American Farmhouse Style Contest

Every season brings its own special charm to our porch, making it a beloved space for our family and friends. Now, with your help, we have the chance to share it with even more people through this magazine contest. Your vote means the world to us, and we would be so grateful for your support.

Karins Kottage

Welcome to Karins Kottage! There is always something fun going on! You would think after becoming an empty nester couple that our nest would be very quiet and empty but our Kottage nest is usually more full than what we started out with! You might find me hosting a birthday party or graduation party and a baby shower on the same weekend or a big outdoor get together with 25 of our friends and family in the backyard or maybe I might be in the kitchen trying out a new recipe for my hubby and I to grill on the BBQ for a quiet night for the two of us. I am passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table! I may or may not have an addiction to cloth napkins and fun salad plates oh and goblets too! I think I will always have a home decorating DIY project in the works as long as my hubby is on board with me haha. We have painted A LOT in the 6 homes we have owned in the 35 years that we have been married as well as re-done multiple pieces of furniture, added wall and ceiling treatments, replaced lights, bathroom fixtures and even tiled floors! I have sewn what seems like a million window treatments for our home as well as for family, made slipcovers, and duvets and even a formal dress or two!
