Most of our ideas for creating these super cute Wild Kratts vest Tutorial came from this blog. We used one of Calvin’s t-shirts as a guide as to how big to cut the vests from black felt and we guessed on how big to cut the “V” so the vest could slip over each of the kids heads. We made sure to try it on Calvin ahead of time to make sure it would go over his head.
Once the vests are cut out you can see up the shoulder seam and either see up the sides to have the vest slip over the child’s head or use Velcro on one side to close.
Circle Pockets
We used clear plastic vinyl I’ve the felt to make a circle pocket for the front of the vests to hold paper disks. The disks can then slide in and out easily so they can “power up”.
Blue and green felt was used to cut out a large circle for the front and little circles to go above it. Tip- place different sized jar lids on the vests to decide what size circles would look best. Then use the lids as a template to cut out all the rest of the circles for each vest.
The power circles can be downloaded and printed from PBS
Tip- Tape the vinyl over the felt to hold it in place while you sew it on.
Stripes for shoulders and sides
To make stripes on the shoulders and the sides cut out blue and green felt rectangles that would fit to size on the shoulders and sides, sew or hot glue them onto a larger black piece of felt, then sew or hot glue as one piece onto the shoulders and sides of each vest.
