Coffee Filter Garland
I had my cute friend Shyla make this awesome Coffee Filter Garland for my daughters pink peach navy and gold Bridal Shower and we also used it for the reception too!
The colors and fluffiness of it is just the best thing ever!!!!
Food Coloring is the secret behind the color.
Shyla played around mixing red and orange and water to get a gorgeous pink salmon color and then dipped small stacks of coffee filters in the color and laid them out to dry all over her house.
After talking to my sister who had made one awhile ago.. She suggested drying them in the oven on a low temp but it’s seems to me I’ve heard drying them in the dryer? Anyone ever tried that method?
After adding in some plain white ones to the mix she strung them on some string and made herself a gigantic Lei and did the hula! 😂 she is so funny!
Shyla used 200 that she dyed and probably another package of just white ones and squished them up once they were strung.
Here we used it at the reception over the fireplace
Then Emily used it at her house for mine and Madeline’s birthday dinner!
I love to find ways to use something like this multiple times!
A huge thank you to Shyla for all her time and effort!!
Karins Kottage

Welcome to Karins Kottage! There is always something fun going on! You would think after becoming an empty nester couple that our nest would be very quiet and empty but our Kottage nest is usually more full than what we started out with! You might find me hosting a birthday party or graduation party and a baby shower on the same weekend or a big outdoor get together with 25 of our friends and family in the backyard or maybe I might be in the kitchen trying out a new recipe for my hubby and I to grill on the BBQ for a quiet night for the two of us. I am passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table! I may or may not have an addiction to cloth napkins and fun salad plates oh and goblets too! I think I will always have a home decorating DIY project in the works as long as my hubby is on board with me haha. We have painted A LOT in the 6 homes we have owned in the 35 years that we have been married as well as re-done multiple pieces of furniture, added wall and ceiling treatments, replaced lights, bathroom fixtures and even tiled floors! I have sewn what seems like a million window treatments for our home as well as for family, made slipcovers, and duvets and even a formal dress or two!

  • I realize that this is an older post, but I wanted to let you know that I have used rit dye on coffee filters and then dried them in the dryer. I was super scary to do it... I was afraid I’d dye the inside of the dryer and that all of our clothes would be a random tie dye after! It worked, though! It didn’t dye my dryer... I did clean the drum with Clorox wipes after just to be sure! The greatest thing about this is that it gives your coffee filters volume and character! (I also use cupcake liners to make garlands as well. So much fun!)
