IKEA shelving hack

A simple addition of bead board to the back of my IKEA shelving unit and its a whole new piece!
IKEA shelving hack black and white dishes
Here is the shelving before with no back piece on it. My dishes just don’t show up.
I went over to Lowes and bought a piece of bead board $20.00 and had them cut it to my specifications 36″wide x 76″high it left me with some large leftover pieces… I will find another use for those pieces. This is the back of the shelving unit before the board was put on.
Lowes bead board
We used small finish nails to attach the board to the back. This is back of the unit with board on it…sorry the pic is kinda funky with the lighting.
Within a few minutes… It was done!! No painting required!

I love the detailing and how it makes my cute dishes pop.
Remember how this looked in my red kitchen nook?

I have always loved white dishes and especially these lettered dishes from TJmaxx years ago. My lettered dishes look so cute in this lime green Tablescape

Black and white tablescapes have been a favorite of mine as you can see Here

Karin, funny I was thinking you built the whole unit! I have used that beadboard for something similar. Years ago I added a piece to the back of the tea shelf I built with help from a neighbor. It was the first time I think I used our router, plus my scroll saw and our tablesaw. It was a fairly involved project and it turned out well! Just no room to put it up here… Actually, we took down a wine shelf from the previous homeowners… Might fit over our sink. 😉

Anyway, after all that ramble, I was happy to feature your post at this week’s Share Your Style #380 for you. <3

Hope you had a nice St. Patrick's Day,
    Barb 🙂

That is such a great idea. The shelf looks so much prettier with the back on it. Love it!

Adding the bead board is a wonderful idea to do with any open backed shelving! Looks really good!
