Crafting Love: DIY Stuffed Valentine Heart Tutorial

Hey, lovely readers! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to spread the love than with a DIY stuffed Valentine heart? Today, I’ll guide you through a simple yet delightful project – creating your very own stuffed Valentine heart. So, grab your favorite fabrics and let’s get crafty!

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Thick scrapbook paper for the template
  • Fabric of your choice
  • Satin ribbon (approximately 10″ long)
  • Sewing essentials (pins, scissors, sewing needle, thread and sewing machine)
  • Stuffing material
  • A dash of creativity and love

Step-by-Step Guide:

Create Your Heart Template: Begin by cutting out a heart shape from thick scrapbook paper. My heart measures 6 1/2 inches long and 6 inches across before sewing or stuffing.

Cut Out the Fabric: Lay the heart template on folded fabric to get two pieces (front and back). Cut out the heart shape.

Prepare the Ribbon: Fold the ribbon in half and place it on the middle of one heart fabric. Make sure to position the folded ribbon with raw edges at the top of the middle center.

Create a Heart Sandwich: Now, place the second heart piece over the top to create a sandwich with the pretty sides facing each other.

Remember to fold up the ribbon inside so it won’t get caught in the seams.

Pin the pieces together, marking an area to keep open for turning and stuffing. I use two pins at the start and stopping point to remind me.

Sew it Up: Time to fire up the sewing machine! Stitch all the way around the heart shape, leaving a small opening for turning and stuffing.

Clip around the entire heart shape to make the turning process smoother.

Turn and Stuff: Carefully turn the heart inside out and start stuffing it with love!

Use your favorite stuffing material until you achieve the desired plumpness.

Hand Sew the Opening: Once your heart is perfectly stuffed, hand-sew the small opening closed. If you don’t want to hand sew you could try hot glueing it shut.

Make sure to secure it well so your creation lasts for many Valentine’s Days to come.

Enjoy your DIY Stuffed Valentine Heart

Display with Love: Voila! Your cute handmade Valentine heart is ready to steal the show. I chose to display mine on one of my 2-tiered stands, which you can find here.
