Top 10 Projects of 2008 part II

This isn’t really a project but it was kind of fun to use what I already had to make it seem different. I used my black and white dishes mixed with other dishes and napkins to create new table settings.

Black and white dishes with red napkins and a white daisy placed on napkin all on white table cloth.Black and white dishes sitting a top of bright yellow dinner plate on top of brown place mat with vegetable napkin totally changes the look.

Classic Black and white dishes with white napkin on black placemat

Black and white dishes with lime green salad plate placed on black placemat for yet another fun look. It is like dressing yourself using different jewlery…I love it!
A spring wreath made from silk flowers left over from my daughters wedding.
Footed bowls made from baking casserole dishes and a smaller dip dish for the bottom. I simply epoxyed them in place and Voila! A fun new serving dish.
Since I do not own a hutch I bought a black shelf from Ikea and outfitted it to look like a hutch by using black and white dishes and baskets.

Karins Kottage

Welcome to Karins Kottage! There is always something fun going on! You would think after becoming an empty nester couple that our nest would be very quiet and empty but our Kottage nest is usually more full than what we started out with! You might find me hosting a birthday party or graduation party and a baby shower on the same weekend or a big outdoor get together with 25 of our friends and family in the backyard or maybe I might be in the kitchen trying out a new recipe for my hubby and I to grill on the BBQ for a quiet night for the two of us. I am passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table! I may or may not have an addiction to cloth napkins and fun salad plates oh and goblets too! I think I will always have a home decorating DIY project in the works as long as my hubby is on board with me haha. We have painted A LOT in the 6 homes we have owned in the 35 years that we have been married as well as re-done multiple pieces of furniture, added wall and ceiling treatments, replaced lights, bathroom fixtures and even tiled floors! I have sewn what seems like a million window treatments for our home as well as for family, made slipcovers, and duvets and even a formal dress or two!

  • Love the black shelf from IKEA - what a fun place that is! Your tablescapes are stunning!

  • Love your table setting ideas, very inspiring to me as I need to start working on all of mine. How smart you were to save the wreath from daughter's wedding. Wish I had saved more things...

  • Thanks for coming by! I love to meet sisters in the faith and practically attached at the hip like my sisters and I are:-)

You cake plates are beautiful! I loved the tablescapes.... and bedroom re-dos, wreathe from your daughters wedding etc. We just had two weddings in December! But did we save the flowers...nope.
In fact as I read down and I am so inspired!!!! WOW, your blog is beautiful and so creative. May I add you to my blog list of many other sisters? The plan was to have my four living sisters blog with me on this blog.... but they haven't caught the vision or ...the addictive disease yet:-)!!! Someday, until then I enjoy all the friends in the blogging neighborhood..

  • Oh, I never met an expoxy project I didn't like! :-) I did something similar with vintage plates and glass candle holders. Voila: Fancy cake stands! And your faux hutch is fabulous...I actually love that the deeper shelves give you better display options.
