Here’s a beautiful and budget-friendly cotton cording wreath you can make using simple finger-knitting and a few cozy holiday accents. If you’ve been craving a handmade holiday decoration that feels soft, cozy, and a little bit whimsical… this creamy cotton-cord wreath is going to steal your heart. It looks like something straight out of a Scandinavian winter cottage—chunky texture, warm neutrals, and just the right amount of sparkle.

And the best part?
It’s made using cotton cording for piping (yep, the stuff normally used for sewing pillows!) and a simple finger-knitting technique. No needles. No stress. Just soft, chunky goodness.
This is an inexpensive project, but it looks high-end and boutique-worthy. Perfect for gifting or for hanging anywhere you want a little holiday cheer.
Let’s make one!
Supplies You’ll Need to Make Cotton Cording Wreath
- Straw wreath form (any size you like)
- 10 yards of cotton cording for piping (creamy white looks stunning!)
- Floral pins (to secure your knitted strand)
- Small gold ball ornaments
- A felted wool deer (or any sweet little ornament for the center)
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Ribbon for hanging
I’ll link everything at the bottom of this post so you can easily shop the supplies. Don’t forget to check out my coastal Christmas wreath where I used some of this cording here and I made some napkin rings out of it too here.

Step 1: Make Your Chunky Finger-Knitted Cord
Finger knitting is EASY and so relaxing. If you can loop yarn around your fingers, you can do this!
Here’s the simple method I used:
How to Finger Knit with Cotton Cording
- Make a loop near one end of the cording and slide it over your thumb or finger.
- Create a second loop and pull it through the first loop.
- Tighten gently.
- Keep making new loops and pulling them through the previous loop—just one after the other.
- Continue until you’ve worked through all 10 yards of cording.

You’ll end up with a thick, chunky, super-soft knitted chain that adds incredible texture to your wreath.
(Include one of your photos here—your readers will love seeing your hands knitting the cording!)
Step 2: Attach Your Knitted Cord to the Wreath
Now for the fun part—wrapping!
- Grab your straw wreath form.
- Take one end of your knitted strip and secure it to the back of the wreath using a floral pin. (Just push it in firmly.)
- Start wrapping your finger-knitted cord around and around the wreath, snuggling each loop next to the previous one so the straw gets completely covered.
- Add a floral pin every so often on the back of the wreath to hold everything in place.

Before long, you’ll have a soft, chunky, creamy wreath base that already looks gorgeous.

Step 3: Add a Little Sparkle to Cotton Cording Wreath
Because who doesn’t love a little shimmer at Christmastime?
Use your hot glue gun to attach small gold ball ornaments around the wreath.
Scatter them evenly… or cluster them on one side for a modern look.
The tiny gold pops against the creamy texture so beautifully!

Step 4: Add a Sweet Centerpiece
For the center of my wreath, I found the cutest felted wool deer. It adds a soft, whimsical winter look that feels magical.
To attach it:
- Simply hot glue the deer to the inside of the wreath opening.
- Press and hold for 10–15 seconds until secure.
You can swap the deer for:
Or leave it plain—the texture alone is stunning. I hope you will check out my other Anthropologie knock off fluffy wreath made from creamy white yarn.

Step 5: Hang and Enjoy
Finish your wreath with a simple ribbon tied around the top.
Hang it on a mirror, a cabinet door, your kitchen hood, or anywhere you want a soft winter accent.
This wreath looks beautiful through Christmas but honestly works all winter long.

Cozy and elegant! I love the idea to add a felted animal in the center.
Thank you! It really turned out so cute. I love finding cute unique felt ornaments like the deer. I found that one at a boutique in our town last year and knew it would look so cute in my wreath. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
Hugs,
