How to Make a Christmas Paper Chain Garland With Ribbon

If you love sweet, whimsical holiday décor, you’re going to adore this pink Christmas paper chain garland made with ribbon. It’s a fun twist on the classic paper chain, but instead of paper—we’re using ribbon! The result is soft, durable, and absolutely perfect for adding a pop of pink Christmas cheer to your tree, mantel, banister, or any little corner that needs some festive fun.

All of the cute pink and red ribbons I used (hello Santa faces, stripes, and bows!) are from Michaels, and they’re on sale right now—so it’s the perfect time to scoop them up and make a few garlands.

Supplies You’ll Need

To make this darling pink ribbon paper chain garland, you only need a few things:

  • 3 coordinating ribbons (pink Santa, red stripes, pink bows—all from Michaels)
  • Scissors
  • Cordless hot glue gun (trust me, this is a game changer for crafting!)
  • Optional: extra ribbon for hanging

I’ll link all the supplies at the bottom of this post!

Step 1: Cut Your Ribbon Strips for Paper Chain Garland

Start by unrolling your ribbon and cutting each piece 8½ inches long.
You’ll get about 20 strips per roll, which makes a great length of garland.

If you want a fuller or longer garland, grab an extra roll.

Step 2: Make Your First Ribbon Loop

Take your first ribbon strip and overlap the ends slightly.
Use your hot glue gun to secure the ends together to form a loop.

Step 3: Add More Ribbon Links

Now the fun, easy part!

  1. Take the next ribbon strip.
  2. Thread it through your first loop.
  3. Glue the ends to form the next link.
  4. Repeat with your third ribbon pattern.

Keep going—loop, glue, thread—until your garland is as long as you’d like.

This is a perfect project to do while watching your favorite Christmas movie!

Step 4: Decorate With Your Garland

Once your pink ribbon paper chain garland is finished, you can hang it anywhere:

  • Across your Christmas tree
  • Draped over your mantel
  • Wrapped around garlands
  • Hung across windows or mirrors
  • Used as décor for a pink-themed holiday party

It instantly adds that nostalgic, cheerful, vintage-meets-modern Christmas vibe. I have some other Christmas crafts that you will love here.

Why You’ll Love This DIY

  • So EASY—great for kids and grandkids
  • Budget-friendly
  • Looks more luxe than paper
  • Completely customizable
  • Quick to create (10–15 minutes!)
  • Makes cute gifts or stocking stuffers
