Italy Travel for Women Over 50: Slower Adventures and Meaningful Moments

Italy travel for women over 50 has become one of my favorite ways to embrace this season of life. With more time, perspective, and freedom, travel looks different now — slower, more intentional, and far more meaningful. On this European adventure, my husband and I explored the Abruzzo region of Italy and spent a few days in London, discovering that travel after 50 is less about checking boxes and more about truly experiencing a place.

A Cozy Stay in the Italian Countryside

Our accommodations reflected exactly what I love about Italy travel for women over 50 — comfort, character, and charm. The villa was filled with thoughtful details, from antique furniture to cozy textiles. Making it feel more like a home than a hotel.

After long travel days, it was wonderful to come back to a peaceful place. We could just relax and simply be present. Travel at this stage of life isn’t about squeezing everything in; it’s about choosing places that allow you to rest, reflect, and truly enjoy where you are.

Our room was beautifully appointed with unique artwork, fabrics, antiques and rugs.

Their olive orchard is just stunning early in the morning or in the evening. They make their own olive oil and olive leaf tea that is delicious and healthy for you

Everywhere you look there is something spectacular all around their property.

Exploring Casoli and Everyday Italian Life

One of the highlights of our time in Abruzzo was visiting the nearby hill town of Casoli. Walking through the narrow streets, watching locals go about their daily routines, and hearing church bells echo through the town made us feel connected to the rhythm of Italian life.

On market days, the town comes alive with vendors selling fresh produce, clothing, and household goods. These everyday moments — chatting with shopkeepers, browsing the stalls, and soaking in the atmosphere — are some of my favorite memories from the trip. They remind me why Italy travel for women over 50 can feel so fulfilling and personal.

There are beautiful old churches everywhere in Italy. This one in a little town of only 400 people did not disappoint! Incredible paintings, faux marble, gold leafing and chandeliers!

This darling little Italian man from the town came out to give us a tour of this beautiful church. He opened up a safe and showed us these satin rolls of jewelry. Members of their parish have over the years donated to the church. It is a thank you to God for a prayer that was answered.

All I can say is if you get a chance to travel to Italy go! Go to small country towns and see unique things. The people are so friendly and want to share things about their towns .
