How I Found Outfit Inspiration from Cindy Hattersley
You know I love to shop my own closet whenever I can! Recently, I was inspired by one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Cindy Hattersley, and her fabulous post on 12 Chic Maxi Looks for Curvy Women Over 50.
Cindy styled the prettiest tiered skirt and denim jacket combo—and even though my body shape is more rectangle/inverted triangle (hello straight lines!), I knew I could tweak the look to work for me.

I found Cindy’s Anthropologie skirt here at only $89!
Shop My Closet: My Version of Cindy’s Outfit
I started digging through my closet and found a long-forgotten gem—a Tommy Hilfiger blue maxi dress. I have had for a few years. It’s lightweight, slightly sheer (but lined, so no slip needed—yay!), and the darker and lighter blue patterns add a lot of depth and interest.
The dress even has a subtle tiered design toward the bottom, which gives it a feminine, flirty vibe that echoes Cindy’s style perfectly!

How I Styled It with My Own Twist
To complete the look, I threw on my dark denim jacket and buttoned it just one button lower than usual. Magic! It gave me the illusion of a waist—something I’m always looking for with my straighter figure.
For a fun pop of color, I slid on a pair of red suede flats. I love how the bright shoes bring energy to the whole outfit. I even found a couple of similar dresses and red flats online, and linked them at the bottom of this post in case you want to recreate this easy, breezy look too!

Final Thoughts: Shop Your Closet First!
This little closet adventure was a fun reminder that we don’t always need to rush out and buy something new to recreate a stylish look. A little creativity (and maybe a little inspiration from stylish ladies like Cindy!) is all it takes.
