Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or almond extract
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Red food coloring or gel optional
  • Valentine’s day sprinkles

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the egg yolk and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add in the flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. If you want to make colored cookies, you can add a few drops of food coloring or a little red gel food coloring. Gel food coloring is a lot more vibrant so you won’t need much.
  6. Take the spritz cookie dough and fill the cookie press tube.
  7. Press the trigger to create your cookies onto a non greased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake them for 8-10 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown.
  9. Remove the heart cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
