Camping themed indoor party using tissue paper. Create faux camp fire with huge S'mores!

I had the opportunity to plan and decorate an entire gym to have a fun indoor camping theme party. It really turned out so cute that I just had to share. This was for 71 staff members that would be working up at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints Girls camp called Oakcrest.

Indoor Camping Theme Table Decorations

The tough part about creating this theme was the fact that we had this in a gym that is huge and beige and so boring. I wanted to bring in a lot of color and some cute camping vignettes on the tables as well as in the front of the room for very little money.

It seems I always start with white! This time it was white plastic tablecloths. Then to add pops of color I added bright colors of tissue paper laid down the center of each table and set on the diagonal. Photos from last years camp were put into small white plastic frames and lined up all through the tables. Just doing that made a huge difference. In the corner of one area of the gym I set up a small tent, a cot, a camp chair and a couple of faux skinny Christmas trees to get everyone excited about camp! Perfect for an indoor camping theme party!

I ordered these round aluminum pans instead of paper plates for a fun look. The bright colored napkins also added to the bright bold camping theme.

Faux Campfire

What is a camp theme without a little fire and some s’mores? I created these little faux camp fires with gigantic S’mores coming out of them! A cute friend of mine did this years ago for a Blue and Gold scout dinner. I remembered how fun they looked and thought Yes! This will be perfect! So I made a bunch of them.

Faux Camp Fire Directions

The faux camp fires are super easy to make. Items needed- Red, yellow and orange tissue paper, green floral foam, floral pins and then to make them look a little more realistic use thin little “logs” of wood. I just had my son in law cut some for me from his wood pile.

1- Take a piece of either red, yellow or orange tissue paper by the center and bunch it up a little.

2- Poke in floral pin and stick it into the floral foam.

3- Make more, alternating colors and fluffing the tissue paper so it looks like a fire.

4- Once you have created the fire, add two strips of wood or small logs on either side to make it look like a real camp fire and to help hold it in place on the table.

Gigantic S’more Directions

To make the gigantic smore’s you need extra large marshmallows, 1 package chocolate chips and one sleeve of graham crackers (optional), crushed and 1 pkg of wooden skewers.

A- Melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl 40 seconds at a time, stirring often.

B- Crush the graham crackers by putting them into a ziplock bag and rolling them with a rolling pin until finely crushed.

C- Stick a wooden skewer into the marshmallow, dip the lower bottom half into the melted chocolate.

D- Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs onto some of the chocolate or you can omit this step as I did on mine.

E- Place the dipped marshmallows onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper or aluminum foil. I kept mine in the fridge until I was ready to put them together. The marshmallows do get a little hard but once they are at room temperature they were fine and everyone loved them.

Remember my other indoor Gourmet S’more party that I did a few years ago in red white and blue? It was so fun to use unique crackers and marshmallows so be sure to check it out.
